Community Involvement

The Houston area is a wonderful place to call home, and our team appreciates the support we've received for nearly 20 years from patients who rely on us to meet their dermatology needs. Every day at our Houston and Katy, Texas, offices, we meet patients who devote their time and energy to a number of worthy causes in our communities. Part of our philosophy at Suzanne Bruce and Associates is to embody that same Texas spirit by giving back to those around us. As an organization that consists of mostly women, we focus heavily on women's and children's issues, such as breast cancer awareness, domestic violence, and children's education. Every year, we look at how we can do more to help the community around us; read on to learn about the causes and events that are close to our hearts.

You can find out about future events the staff at our Houston and Katy dermatology clinics are planning by calling our office at (713) 850-0240. If you want to discuss your personal dermatology needs, you can request a consultation online.

Supporting Women and Families in Need

Two local women's shelters, the Houston Area Women's Center and Fort Bend Women's Center, provide sanctuary for women and their children who are victims of abuse. Malcolm Wadell, our very own Director of Business Development, sits on the board for the Houston Area Women's Center.

As part of our Fall Community Outreach in 2014, our practice raised more than $2,000, including both cash and supplies. Our incredible staff created baskets filled with goods and dropped them off at the shelters. In 2013, our staff pitched in to raise more than $1,000 in cash and in-kind donations through a variety of different activities internally and with patients.

Dress for Success Houston

The Houston chapter of this international nonprofit organization promotes the economic independence of local disadvantaged women by providing professional clothing and accessories, job skill training, interview coaching, and a support network as they begin a new phase in their lives. We are very proud of the work they do. Along with the women's shelters, they help victims of domestic violence and families gain independence and stability during a very important time. Suzanne Bruce and Associates proudly hosted the Check Your Bag at The Door event in 2014, raising money and collecting items such as professional handbags to help more than 4,000 local women annually look their best and enjoy the confidence needed to succeed at a job interview or their first days on the job.

Promoting Sun Safety

Keeping our patients' skin healthy is a cause we promote every chance we get. Skin cancer is the most diagnosed type of cancer in the nation, but it is also the most treatable when caught early. From hosting regular skin cancer screenings at both our Houston and Katy locations to participating in events such as the Katy Family YMCA Turkey Dash on Thanksgiving to educate runners about sun safety, our team is committed to getting the word out about protecting your skin from the sun every day.

Youth Outreach

Dr. Bruce and everyone at our practice welcome ongoing opportunities to help our local youths through sponsorships or by speaking to organizations about the importance of healthy skin. Some of our past efforts have included:

  • Members of our staff made a presentation to a local Girl Scout troop on a weekend to help its members complete a portion of their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) badge. They discussed sun safety and common skin conditions a Girl Scout might encounter, such as poison ivy, sunburns, and bug bites.
  • We supported the Katy ISD Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides resources to enrich teaching, inspire learning, and enhance opportunities for students enrolled in Katy ISD.
  • We were a platinum-level sponsor of the Obra D. Tompkins High School Falcon Band.
  • We have participated in the Christmas Tree Angel Program at the Tradition Bank in the heart of Old Katy, which provides gifts for less fortunate youths in the area.
  • We donate to countless school auctions, helping schools in both Houston and Katy raise important funds to support educational activities for kids.
  • Several of our employees are members of the Katy Rotarians, helping the Katy Rotary raise local funds for a variety of different education and community-based causes.

We frequently take on new events to do our part for the communities that have treated us so well. To stay up to date on our latest efforts, visit our Facebook page.
