Evolence, FDA-approved in April 2008, is the newest dermal filler to hit the U.S. market. Developed by an Israeli company, Evolence is marketed here by OrthoNeutrogena Aesthetics. We use Evolence to correct wrinkles and folds, such as smile and marionette lines, and fill contour deficiencies or defects of soft tissue, such as cheeks, chin and nose. Here are some of the most commonly-asked questions we receive.
What is Evolence made of?
Evolence is made from purified porcine (pig) collagen. It is processed in such a way that it is nearly identical to human collagen. Therefore, no skin pre-testing for allergic reactions is needed as it was for older bovine collagen. There were no allergic reactions in the clinical trials for FDA approval of this filler.
Why should I choose Evolence?
Evolence is unique in a number of ways. First, there is very little swelling or redness after injection. Also bruising is much less with Evolence because collagen naturally causes hemostasis (clotting of blood). Finally, collagen fillers, including Evolence, have always been known to be a soft, natural-appearing filler.
How long will Evolence last?
The filler is expected to last at least six months. The longer duration than previous collagen fillers results from cross linking using naturally-occurring sugar molecules – ribose – just as the body naturally does.
What are the disadvantages?
Evolence can not be used in the lips. In the future, we expect Evolence Breeze to be FDA-approved and be excellent filler for lip augmentation.
