WHERE ARE YOU FROM? I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I am proud to be a native Houstonian. I attended Bellaire High School. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. I then returned to Houston for medical school at UT Houston.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT MEDICINE THAT YOU LOVE? I love working with patients and making a difference in their lives. Knowing that I can improve the well-being and quality of life of my patients inspires me.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO INTO DERMATOLOGY? I love the skin! I also love the variety dermatology has to offer: I break up the day with different procedures, and educating and interacting with patients. As a dermatologist I often deal with patients’ outward appearance, and it is particularly satisfying when they leave feeling extra good about themselves!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE AS A DOCTOR? Welcoming, warm yet serious when protecting your skin. Building trust and lasting relationships with patients is extremely important to me.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING AND WHERE? I have just completed my residency in Kansas City at the University of Kansas Medical Center. During those three years I had a lot of experience in a university-based clinic with a diverse patient population. I was able to gain experience with phototherapy, Mohs surgery and various lasers. I also spent quite a bit of time doing pediatric dermatology and treating veterans in a VA hospital. There I was able to gain tons of surgical experience.
HAVE YOU DONE ANY RESEARCH? After my internship I spent a year writing papers, mostly investigating lasers. Definitely, the most interesting topic I wrote about is fractional photothermolysis, such as our Fraxel® procedure. This technology already has so much to offer for photodamage, with new benefits still being discovered.
DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL MOTTO/MANTRA? Maintain your integrity at all costs.
WHAT ISSUES DO YOU FEEL PASSIONATE ABOUT? As a woman and a physician, I really respect and admire the work that is done for breast cancer; the Susan G. Komen Foundation has done a remarkable job in the last few years. I am really glad that Suzanne Bruce & Associates is such a supporter of the cause!
SOMETHING YOU FEEL PASSIONATE ABOUT…. My son. I have an 18-month old son named Brooks who is amazing and brings us such joy. I also love to travel and to eat different food from different cultures..
