Cancer. It’s one of those words that is heard and sends chills down people’s spines. Skin Cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than 2 million people diagnosed annually(1). There are three basic types of cancerous skin cells: Basel Cells, Squamous and Melanoma. Until recently, the main treatment option for removing non-melanoma skin cancer was to surgically remove the cancerous tissue and a surrounding margin of healthy skin, which can often lead to unsightly scars. Now, there is a better option called Superficial Radiation Therapy, or SRT for short. With an equivalent cure rate as surgery, its really an exciting option for those looking to avoid surgery, pain, anesthesia and of course scars.
SRT is a low energy radiotherapy that goes no deeper than the thickness of the skin. It is a proven non-invasive procedure that has been used to treat non-melanoma skin cancer for over 50 years. Until now this device has been large and nearly immobile, only available in large hospitals. We are happy to announce that we one of just a handful of doctor’s offices in Texas, and the only office in Houston, who have the modern solution, the more portable and compact SRT-100. It is just as safe, painless, and effective as its larger sibling, but now it’s available at a convenient location for you, Suzanne Bruce and Associates.
Have a history of diagnosed non-melanoma skin cancers? This may prove to be something great for you, come in and see one of our doctors to see if the SRT-100 is right for you.
