A well-defined chin and jawline is one of the most desirable facial features for men and women. In the past, someone with a double chin caused by stubborn fat needed liposuction to reduce it. That has changed with the FDA approval of KYBELLA, available in Houston, TX, from the skin specialists at Suzanne Bruce and Associates. KYBELLA is a breakthrough non-surgical treatment that can significantly reduce the appearance of a double chin with a series of injections.
We are one of the first Houston dermatology practices offering KYBELLA, the only non-surgical treatment approved by the FDA specifically to reduce fat below the chin (called submental fat).

How Does KYBELLA Work?
Submental fat, often called a double chin, can be the result of genetics or aging, in addition to weight gain, and resists diet and exercise. KYBELLA is a non-surgical treatment for fat reduction under the chin and on the neck for people who want an alternative to an invasive procedure such as liposuction.
KYBELLA is formulated using deoxycholic acid, a chemical that’s naturally produced by the body to help dissolve and absorb excess fat. When fat cells under the chin are injected with KYBELLA, they rupture and are destroyed. The treated fat cells are flushed from the body naturally, resulting in a gradual reduction of a double chin. Another nonsurgical option for unwanted fat under the chin is CoolSculpting®, which reduces fat with a patented cooling process.
Your KYBELLA Treatment
We customize your treatment plan during your consultation based on how much submental fat you have and your aesthetic goals. Each treatment session involves a series of injections, which follow a grid pattern that is marked on the treatment area before the procedure starts. The number of injections varies from patient to patient. Up to 50 may be made during a single treatment.
Planning Your Treatment
We administer several KYBELLA injections during each session based on your goals. We create a marked grid beneath your chin, shown here, to guide your highly trained injector during the treatment, ensuring precision. A topical anesthetic helps you remain comfortable during treatments. Between 3 and 6 sessions are needed to get optimal results.
Between 3 and 6 separate treatment sessions are recommended to get the desired results. We space the appointments 4 weeks apart, and you likely will begin seeing results within 30 days of your first treatment. Additional improvements follow each treatment.
Dr. Bruce, who participated in clinical trials of KYBELLA, is featured by the Houston, Texas, NBC affiliate demonstrating the treatment.
Because the fat cells injected with KYBELLA are destroyed and flushed from the body, the results are permanent. If you gain a moderate amount of weight, fat will be stored in cells in other parts of the face and body. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of KYBELLA. The most common side effects are bruising, swelling, redness, numbness, and small areas of firmness in the treatment area.
Your thinner neck will result in a more refined chin and jawline. You may also notice vertical neck bands that were previously hidden by fat. These bands can be easily treated with injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®. If you’re concerned about sagging skin, Ultherapy®, or Thermage® are each successful skin tightening treatments.
