UltraPulse® CO2 Laser
Built by acclaimed manufacturer Lumenis®, the UltraPulse CO2 laser is one of the most powerful and versatile options for laser skin resurfacing here in Houston, Texas. With several different treatment options available through the same device, our UltraPulse laser is adaptable enough to treat a variety of conditions – from sun damage to wrinkles to all forms of scarring.
How It Works
The UltraPulse laser works by delivering powerful laser energy into targeted areas. The energy stimulates the growth of new skin and new, healthy collagen, smoothing away imperfections and decreasing wrinkles as it heals. In regards to scars, this laser helps to replace damaged scar collagen with new, suppler collagen. Not only does it improve the appearance of scars, but also the flexibity, pain, and itching that many patients with severe scars experience.
UltraPulse is a fractional laser, which means that its energy penetrates skin in small pinpoints rather than broad swaths. Fraxel® is another company which has developed a variety of fractionated lasers. Because more skin remains untouched, healing time is faster and more comfortable than with more traditional ablative lasers and are safer for a broad range of skin tones and textures.
The Lumenis Ultrapulse has three treatment modes, which allows us to customize a treatment for your individual skin’s needs. The ActiveFx mode is used for treating brown spots, pore size, skin texture, and tightening thin eyelid skin. The DeepFx mode is best for treating wrinkles, enlarged pores, indented scars, or rhinophyma. Finally, the SCAARFx mode is used on elevated on thicker scars, which result from trauma, surgery, or burns.
Your Beautiful Skin
Since the Ultrapulse is such a versatile laser, your treatment is fully customizable based on your own preferences and needs. For patients that want a stronger treatment, but do not want a prolonged downtime, we can stage their regimen into 2 separate treatments with just 3 days of downtime each versus a week of downtime with the stronger treatment options. After approximately 3 days of healing you can then begin applying make up again. Fridays are the perfect day to schedule your treatment!
Like with all laser treatments, results take some time to develop while your body is spurred into building new collagen and healing, so expect a gradual improvement in the following 3-6 months following your treatment. You can expect a noticeable difference in the texture, wrinkles, and pore size after healing is completed. The Ultrapulse is also very effective at improving the appearance of scars using its module called SCAARFx including acne scars, burn scars, traumatic scars, and surgical scars.
The treatment itself takes approximately 1 hour depending on the size of the area being treated. We believe in keeping you comfortable during the procedure and depending on the severity of the treatment we will administer nerve blocks (injections of a local anesthetic called lidocaine) along with a topical numbing ointment. A chilled air blower will also be used during the procedure to help with any additional discomfort.Back to Top
