Qwo is a treatment that is truly easy to administer, pain-free, and is effective for cellulite in the buttock area. Qwo is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to reduce moderate to severe cellulite and our office is one of the first to offer it in Houston, Texas. SBA Dermatology is one of the few select offices nationwide that participated in the clinical trial that led to the FDA approval of Qwo. This ground-breaking treatment uses enzymes to break up the bands that cause dimpling on the cheeks, the result leaves patients with smoother contours without downtime. Qwo works in 3 ways: releasing fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and stimulating the growth of new collagen.

Cellulite appears as dimpling of the skin which is caused when fat cells expand and the connective bands woven throughout the fat in our bodies pull down, creating valleys. Cellulite is found primarily on the buttocks and legs and can range in severity. As we age, cellulite can become more visible and has historically been very hard to correct.

Qwo is an injectable enzyme that targets the connective bands and slowly dissolves them while also encouraging new ones to form. Like a rubber band, the treated skin “bounces back,” smoothing itself out in as little as 3 days without surgery, pain, or downtime.

Your Beautiful Skin

Qwo has been FDA-approved to safely smooth cellulite on the buttocks leaving a rejuvenated appearance that is visible in as little as a couple of weeks. The treatment itself takes only 30 minutes and requires a series of treatment visits to treat one area to completion depending on the severity of the area. The clinical trial showed that results from Qwo lasted at least 6 months, but overall results should be long-lasting since it is treating the underlying issue that causes the dimpling.
Treatment begins with an assessment of your skin, after, which we plan your treatment at SBA Dermatology, we can also recommend other or combinations of body contouring and skin tightening services that may help you achieve your goals, such as CoolSculpting®, VelaShape™, Thermage®, or Sculptra for the Body.

What to Expect

Before treating the selected areas, we apply a local anesthetic as a numbing agent to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Some results will be visible on day 3, but optimal results will be seen after 30 days.

There is little to no downtime with Qwo, so you can return quickly to your normal activities. Side effects are generally minor and may include redness, some bruising, soreness, and tenderness. All of these usually disappear quickly. There is no special care needed after treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Qwo hurt?

Qwo is injected using an extremely small needle. Coupled with a local anesthetic, Qwo is a very comfortable procedure with minimal discomfort, allowing patients to get back to most of their normal activities as soon as their appointments are over.

Will my cellulite come back?

The cellulite may return but you will be able to enjoy your results for quite a while. Most of the clinical studies related to Qwo evaluated results through at least 6 months. However, Qwo directly targets the structural cause of cellulite, and so results are likely long-lasting. The best way to prolong your results is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and follow your aftercare instructions.

How much does Qwo cost?

Here in Houston, the cost of a Qwo treatment varies significantly between patients, depending on the extent of the procedure. For this reason, it’s not possible to offer a specific figure before an in-person consultation. During your consultation, we will draft a quote that reflects your specific procedure. To learn more, you can complete a contact form and someone from our office will be in touch. You can also call the office at (713)850-0240 to get more information.

What are the possible side effects and downtime following Qwo treatment?

During the Qwo clinical trials the most common side effects found were:
● Injection site bruising
● Pain in the area of treatment
● Areas of hardness
● Itching
● Redness
● Skin discoloration
● Swelling in the treatment area
● Warmth in the treatment area

Is Qwo safe for skin of color?

Yes, Qwo is safe for all skin types. Nearly 30% of those treated with Qwo in the clinical trials had Fitzpatrick skin types IV, V, and VI (darker tones).

How Does Qwo Differ from Cellfina?

Qwo creates an enzymatic degradation and release of fibrous septae that contribute to cellulite dimpling. Cellfina takes a physical or mechanical approach. It uses a microblade to cut and release the band under local anesthesia. Both have about the same degree of bruising and little to no downtime. Qwo is an injectable while Cellfina is a minimally invasive microblade surgical release of fibrous septae.
