Warts

Usually harmless, warts are small, skin-colored lumps that can appear on most areas of the body including the face, hands, feet, and genitals. While most warts will often disappear within 2 years, many people do not want to wait that long.

Understanding This Condition

Warts are a very common viral infection of the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They often make the patient feel self-conscious and can be physically painful, as well.

Treatments

There are many treatments available, although there is no definitive cure. In our medical center, we use various methods to remove warts when over-the-counter treatments are not effective or appropriate.

  • Freezing (cryotherapy) with liquid nitrogen
  • Using heat from electricity (electrocautery)
  • Immunotherapy to create an immune system response in the area of the wart

Like other wart treatments, these treatments are not guaranteed to work and may take several treatment sessions, which are usually performed several weeks apart. However, professional treatment is a nice option to pursue if you have not had success with or cannot tolerate other wart treatments.

When it comes to treating your skin, it's important to choose a specialist who knows the skin inside and out.
