The eyebrows have been said to help protect the eyes from sweat and debris.  Whether that is true or not, they do play an important role in terms of communicating emotions. Think about all the times you furrow your brows out of concern or raise them in surprise. While this works well in our youth, as our bodies age the skin stretches and wrinkles, leading to eyebrows that begin to sag. Fortunately, an eyebrow lift can combat these effects and have you, once again, loving the way you looked in the past. Experienced plastic surgeon Dr. Ryan Couvillion and the team at SBA Dermatology& Plastic Surgery in Houston, TX are passionate about helping you turn back the clock.

What is a Brow Lift?

brow lift is a simple procedure that can reposition your eyebrows, restoring a more youthful appearance of the forehead and eyes. Usually, this is an outpatient operation performed either in the hospital under anesthesia or with numbing medications in the office.

There are different ways to perform the procedure and the technique that Dr. Couvillion chooses depends on your anatomy.  Most women will benefit from a hairline or temporal brow lift, whereas men may require a different procedure depending on the location of their hair.

Some bruising and swelling are not uncommon, but these side effects should subside within about ten days. At this point, patients are usually able to see the majority of the results from their procedure. Over the coming weeks, as the body heals, the final results will continue to improve.

How Long Will a Brow Lift Last?

Brow lifts are meant to provide results for countless years to come. However, the procedure does not halt the natural aging process of the body. Therefore, the amount of time before results begin to fade can vary depending on a wide number of factors. In order to achieve results that last as long as possible, it's important to remember to:

  • Avoid sun damage
  • Don't smoke
  • Maintain proper diet and exercise
  • Moisturize your skin
  • Stay hydrated
  • Stay rested and avoid stress

Additionally, there are other factors that can influence the results of the procedure, regardless of how well you take care of yourself and your skin. For example, skin thickness is a major factor in the appearance of the eyebrows. Someone with thicker skin in the area of their eyebrows will likely notice more sagging due to the additional weight and pressure from the skin. On the other hand, patients with thin skin usually are more susceptible to wrinkling. Another consideration when it comes to the length of results is the elasticity of the skin. A younger patient with healthier skin often will have a longer time before sagging recurs.
